Port Placement
A Port-a-Cath consists of a small medical appliance placed surgically beneath the skin on the upper chest and connected to a catheter able to deliver medicines to a central vein. The catheter can be used for chronic medication infusion including IV Fluid, blood transfusion, antibiotics and chemotherapy.
Port-a-Cath placement is an outpatient procedure for which you receive General Anesthesia. The entire procedure takes approximately 1 hour to perform and the port can be used immediately.
You can not drive within 24h of General Anesthesia and must arrange a ride to and from the center for your procedure.
